Polyphone is licensed under the GNU General Public License  . Anyone may thus access the source code, and is welcome to help in the development of the program.

Below are listed all licenses that can be attached to the soundfonts shared on this website. Please read them carefully so that you don′t infringe the rights authors give you. If you need something that is not permitted by a license, you must have the explicit and written consent of the author.

Licenses allowing a commercial use

Public domain

You have all freedom on the soundfont. The initial author (if mentioned!) waives all its rights and it is for example possible to:

• modify the initial soundfont,
• ignore initial authors,
• make a commercial use of the soundfont,
• forbid the distribution of the modified soundfont.

Attributing the initial author, if possible, is still appreciated even if the soundfont has felt into the public domain.

Give credit

The author allows a personal and commercial use of the soundfont along with derivative works whose distribution is also allowed with no restrictions. The only condition is to give appropriate credit to the initial author by mentioning its name (good practices for attribution are described here  ). This license is recommended for an optimal use and distribution of a soundfont.

The author allows a personal and commercial use of the soundfont along with derivative works with the condition that they are distributed under a license identical to the one that governs the initial soundfont. It is thus not possible to modify the original soundfont and associate a license preventing for example:

• its distribution (with modification or not),
• its commercial use.

The initial author must be attributed to the soundfont, in addition to the one who modifies it (good practices for attribution are described here  ).

Don′t distribute a modified version

The author allows a personal and commercial use of the soundfont but forbid the distribution of a derivative work. It is possible to modify the original soundfont as long as it is not shared. The integrity of the initial soundfont is thus preserved.

The author allows only a personal use of a soundfont and its derivative products. A commercial use of the original soundfont and all its derivative products is subject to an explicit and written authorization by the author. Under this license, a modified soundfont can only be distributed if the initial author has been attributed (good practices for attribution are described here  ).

Personal use, don′t distribute with more restrictions

The author allows only a personal use of a soundfont and its derivative products. The distribution of a derivative work can only be made if these soundfonts have a license identical to the one that governs the initial soundfont. It is thus not possible to modify the original soundfont and associate a license preventing the distribution, with or without modification. A commercial use remains prohibited. The initial author must be attributed to derivative soundfonts (good practices for attribution are described here  ).

Personal use, don′t distribute a modified version

The author allows only a non-commercial use of the original soundfont and forbid the distribution of a derivative work. The distribution of the initial soundfont with no modifications is still possible. This license is the most restrictive, by allowing the author to keep an exclusive commercial use of a soundfont and by guaranteeing that the soundfont will not be altered.
