just want to know if you can increase or decrease the amount of voices a certain instrument can have, kind of like the polyphony/voices parameter in synthesizers.
what certain instrument?
think of your own voice; if you decrease the amount, you hear nothing.
if you want to hear chords or in octavo's you will have to ask your brother or sister to sing along.

okay let me explain a bit, based on my own knowledge
lets say you have a three-note chord and the polyphony/voices parameter is 2
when the synth recieves that chord, it will strip away less important voices based on it's settings, meaning that the three-note triad gets reduced to a two-note diad
this is useful because some sounds don't work well when they're played on top of each other more than once or twice, the waveforms all collide and sound noisy because they're being played at different pitches at the exact same time (i don't 100% know what i'm talking about so take everything i say with a grain of salt, though)
so simply i'm asking if i can strip away notes (decrease the amount of voices), with my soundfont
it is possible in a soundfont to mute certain voices by triggering them via Velocity, but you would have to play/write these velocity settings yourself, as the soundfont cannot know what you want to hear.
an instrument has only one (mono) voice, you are the one to play or write the chords (if possinle of course; you cannot play a chord on a flute).
i think it is nonsense to try to achieve this via a soundfont.
