"Vol env" generators at the preset level

    Hello,

I'm looking at some existing sf2 files trying to understand the Volume envelope generators relationship between instruments and presets. Close to some of the Preset generator names in the Polyphone application, there is an (x) in parentheses. My understanding is that it means the generator is not applicable at the preset level.

    Is that a correct interpretation?
Is this a specific feature of Polyphone or part of the SF2 standard?

    Thanks!

This "(x)" indicates that the value you enter here is relative to the value in the instrument section. So what you write here is the value of multiplication.
What happens when you enter values for parts marked with (x):
Example 1: If the numerical value entered in the instrument section is 4, you would enter 2 in the preset section, the result is: 2 * 4 = 8.
Example2: If the numerical value entered in the instrument section is 4, you would enter .2 in the preset section, the result is: 2 * 0.2 = 0.4.

Thanks a lo for this explanation! What about the others, they are added instead of multiplied ? I understand that some are not allowed at the preset level from the soundfont 2.1 documentation.

in preset level: the values entered in the parts without the "(x)" sign are added or subtracted.
Entries that are not allowed in the preset field are not listed in that section.
So everything you see in this section is available.
