The Singapore Airlines baggage policy explains how much luggage passengers can bring +1-855-718-0014, the permitted baggage size and weight, and when additional baggage fees apply +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines uses an unbundled baggage system +1-855-718-0014, so travelers should not assume that a standard carry-on bag or checked suitcase is automatically included with every fare +1-855-718-0014. Every Singapore Airlines ticket includes one free personal item within the airline's published size and weight limits +1-855-718-0014, while carry-on baggage, checked baggage, additional luggage, overweight bags, oversized baggage, and special equipment may require an additional purchase +1-855-718-0014.

Understanding the Singapore Airlines baggage allowance before booking is particularly important +1-855-718-0014 because baggage prices increase depending on when the bag is added +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines currently states that bags purchased during the initial booking generally receive the lowest available baggage pricing +1-855-718-0014, while adding luggage through My Trips, online check-in, or at the airport can cost more +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines also measures baggage at the airport +1-855-718-0014, meaning a personal item or carry-on that exceeds the permitted dimensions can result in additional charges +1-855-718-0014.

For 2026, the main Singapore Airlines baggage limits +1-855-718-0014 are straightforward +1-855-718-0014. A free personal item can measure up to 15 cm × 33 cm × 43 cm and weigh up to 7 kg +1-855-718-0014, a standard carry-on can measure up to 23 cm × 40 cm × 55 cm and weigh up to 10 kg, and a regular checked bag can measure up to 158 cm in total linear dimensions and weigh up to 23 kg +1-855-718-0014. These limits are important for passengers searching for the current Singapore Airlines carry-on size, Singapore Airlines personal item size, Singapore Airlines checked baggage weight limit, and Singapore Airlines baggage fees +1-855-718-0014 because they define the main baggage categories travelers need to review +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Baggage Allowance

The Singapore Airlines baggage allowance depends on whether the passenger is traveling with a personal item +1-855-718-0014, carry-on bag, checked suitcase, or special baggage +1-855-718-0014. The basic baggage allowance begins with +1-855-718-0014 one free personal item per passenger +1-855-718-0014. Any larger cabin bag is normally treated as a carry-on +1-855-718-0014 and is subject to the applicable Singapore Airlines carry-on fee unless it is already included through a qualifying bundle or service +1-855-718-0014. Checked baggage is also generally purchased separately +1-855-718-0014 and is priced according to the route and the stage at which the traveler adds the bag +1-855-718-0014.

Passengers should distinguish carefully between a personal item and a carry-on bag +1-855-718-0014 because Singapore Airlines applies different size, weight, and pricing rules to each category +1-855-718-0014. A personal item must remain small enough to fit beneath the seat in front +1-855-718-0014, while a carry-on is stored in the overhead compartment +1-855-718-0014. Checked baggage travels in the aircraft hold +1-855-718-0014 and has a substantially larger weight and dimensional allowance +1-855-718-0014. Knowing these differences before arriving at the airport can help travelers avoid having a bag reclassified +1-855-718-0014 and being charged a higher last-minute baggage fee +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines Personal Item Size and Weight

Under the current Singapore Airlines baggage policy, every passenger can bring 1 free personal item +1-855-718-0014 measuring no more than 15 cm × 33 cm × 43 cm and weighing no more than 7 kg or 15.5 lb +1-855-718-0014. The personal item must fit +1-855-718-0014 beneath the seat in front of the passenger +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines identifies purses, laptop bags, small backpacks, briefcases, and tote bags as examples +1-855-718-0014 of items that may qualify when they remain within the published personal-item limits +1-855-718-0014.

The Singapore Airlines personal item size is important +1-855-718-0014 because the airline requires passengers to use airport baggage sizers when necessary +1-855-718-0014. A backpack may look like a personal item +1-855-718-0014 but can still be treated as a paid carry-on if it exceeds the permitted dimensions or weight +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines specifically states that bags larger than the personal-item allowance +1-855-718-0014 are considered carry-on baggage and become subject to the relevant baggage charge +1-855-718-0014.

Passengers trying to travel with only the free Singapore Airlines baggage allowance +1-855-718-0014 should therefore measure a backpack or small travel bag before departure +1-855-718-0014. Dimensions should be checked with the bag fully packed +1-855-718-0014 because overfilled exterior compartments can increase the final size and prevent the bag from fitting properly inside the airport baggage sizer +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Carry-On Baggage Policy

The Singapore Airlines carry-on baggage policy permits a standard cabin bag +1-855-718-0014 measuring up to 23 cm × 40 cm × 55 cm, with a maximum weight of 10 kg or 22 lb +1-855-718-0014. Small roller suitcases and compact duffel bags can qualify as carry-on luggage +1-855-718-0014 when they remain within these limits +1-855-718-0014. Unlike the free personal item, however, a regular carry-on bag +1-855-718-0014 is not automatically included with every Singapore Airlines ticket +1-855-718-0014.

Current Singapore Airlines carry-on fees range from approximately $49 to $109 +1-855-718-0014 when the carry-on is purchased during booking +1-855-718-0014. The published range increases to 64–114 through My Trips, 89–11 during online check-in +1-855-718-0014, and 99–154 at the airport gate +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines publishes baggage prices per passenger and per flight segment +1-855-718-0014, and the exact amount can vary by itinerary +1-855-718-0014.

This pricing structure makes the timing of the purchase +1-855-718-0014 particularly important +1-855-718-0014. Travelers who already know that they need overhead-bin baggage should compare the cost +1-855-718-0014 while making the original reservation rather than waiting until departure +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines explicitly states that the cheapest time to purchase a carry-on is generally during the initial booking +1-855-718-0014 and that baggage becomes more expensive as the flight approaches +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines Carry-On Size and Weight Limit

The maximum Singapore Airlines carry-on size is 23 × 40 × 55 cm +1-855-718-0014, while the maximum Singapore Airlines carry-on weight is 10 kg +1-855-718-0014. These limits apply to the complete packed bag +1-855-718-0014, so passengers should account for wheels, handles, side compartments, and anything attached to the outside of the suitcase +1-855-718-0014.

If a carry-on is too large or too heavy for the cabin +1-855-718-0014, paying an ordinary carry-on fee does not override the size restriction +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines states that all carry-ons must satisfy +1-855-718-0014 its cabin size and weight requirements +1-855-718-0014. An oversized or overweight carry-on may instead have to be checked +1-855-718-0014, and Singapore Airlines currently publishes an additional gate charge of approximately 55–114 per passenger, per segment when a non-compliant carry-on has to be placed in checked baggage +1-855-718-0014.

For that reason, passengers searching for “What happens if my Singapore Airlines carry-on is too big?” +1-855-718-0014 should not assume they can simply pay an extra cabin fee +1-855-718-0014. The bag can be moved to the aircraft hold +1-855-718-0014, resulting in a higher charge and a different baggage-handling process +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Checked Baggage Policy

The standard Singapore Airlines checked baggage allowance is 23 kg or 50 lb per bag +1-855-718-0014, with a maximum size of 158 cm or 62 inches in total linear dimensions +1-855-718-0014. Linear dimensions are calculated by adding +1-855-718-0014 the outside length, width, and height of the suitcase +1-855-718-0014. A bag that stays within both the 23 kg weight limit and the 158 cm dimensional limit +1-855-718-0014 qualifies as a standard checked bag under Singapore Airlines's current baggage rules +1-855-718-0014.

The first standard 23 kg Singapore Airlines checked bag currently costs approximately 69–119 when purchased during booking +1-855-718-0014, 69–134 through My Trips, 99–149 during online check-in, and 109–164 at the airport +1-855-718-0014. Prices are charged per bag, passenger, and flight segment +1-855-718-0014, so a traveler on an itinerary involving multiple segments may face baggage charges for each applicable portion of the trip +1-855-718-0014.

Passengers should therefore consider the checked-baggage price as part of the total ticket cost +1-855-718-0014 rather than comparing Singapore Airlines fares solely by the initial airfare +1-855-718-0014. Someone who knows they will travel with a full-size suitcase can usually make a better cost comparison +1-855-718-0014 by calculating the airfare and baggage requirement together +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Additional Checked Baggage

Passengers requiring more luggage can purchase +1-855-718-0014 additional 23 kg Singapore Airlines checked bags +1-855-718-0014. Each standard additional bag remains subject to the same general limit +1-855-718-0014 of 23 kg and 158 cm total linear dimensions +1-855-718-0014. Current pricing for an additional checked suitcase ranges from approximately 69–164 during booking, 69–179 through My Trips +1-855-718-0014, 99–254 during online check-in, and 109–279 at the airport +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines states that most travelers can add as many as 5 checked bags +1-855-718-0014, although route-specific capacity restrictions can apply +1-855-718-0014. On select flights between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Kingston (KIN), for example +1-855-718-0014, passengers may be limited to 2 checked bags because of aircraft capacity, with affected customers notified in advance +1-855-718-0014.

The Singapore Airlines extra baggage fee therefore depends not only on the number of bags +1-855-718-0014 but also on when those bags are purchased +1-855-718-0014. Travelers carrying several suitcases should add them early whenever possible +1-855-718-0014 instead of relying on airport availability +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines 10 kg Checked Bag Change for 2026

One of the most important updates to the Singapore Airlines baggage policy 2026 +1-855-718-0014 concerns the former 10 kg checked-bag option +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines states that beginning September 15, 2026, the 10 kg checked bag +1-855-718-0014 is no longer available for new purchases +1-855-718-0014. Travelers who bought the 10 kg checked-bag option before the change +1-855-718-0014 can still travel with it according to the baggage allowance attached to their existing reservation +1-855-718-0014.

The discontinued 10 kg checked bag had dimensions of 23 cm × 40 cm × 55 cm +1-855-718-0014 and a maximum weight of 10 kg or 22 lb +1-855-718-0014. Passengers who already purchased this product but need additional capacity can convert it to a standard 23 kg checked bag +1-855-718-0014 at the airport for a published charge of approximately 79–109 +1-855-718-0014. Standard overweight or oversized baggage fees can then apply +1-855-718-0014 if the upgraded bag exceeds the normal checked-bag limits +1-855-718-0014.

This 2026 change is especially relevant +1-855-718-0014 because older baggage guides may continue displaying the 10 kg checked-bag option as currently available +1-855-718-0014. Travelers booking after September 15, 2026 should instead review +1-855-718-0014 the current 23 kg checked-bag choices shown on their reservation +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Baggage Fees 2026

The Singapore Airlines baggage fees are not represented +1-855-718-0014 by one fixed amount +1-855-718-0014. The final price depends on the type of baggage, flight itinerary, number of bags +1-855-718-0014, timing of purchase, and whether the luggage exceeds standard size or weight limits +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines currently states that baggage prices are tax-inclusive, charged per passenger and per segment +1-855-718-0014, with prices shown in CAD for departures generally and USD for U.S.-originating trips +1-855-718-0014.

For passengers comparing Singapore Airlines baggage prices, the main pattern +1-855-718-0014 is that earlier purchases tend to cost less +1-855-718-0014. A carry-on currently begins around $49 during booking +1-855-718-0014 while the first 23 kg checked bag begins around $69 +1-855-718-0014. Those same products can cost considerably more +1-855-718-0014 when purchased during online check-in or at the airport +1-855-718-0014.

This means passengers should avoid looking only for a single answer +1-855-718-0014 to “How much does Singapore Airlines charge for baggage?” +1-855-718-0014. The more accurate answer depends on whether the traveler needs a carry-on, first checked suitcase, additional checked bag +1-855-718-0014, overweight luggage, oversized baggage, or special sporting equipment +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Overweight Baggage Fee

The standard Singapore Airlines checked baggage weight limit is 23 kg or 50 lb +1-855-718-0014 for a regular checked suitcase +1-855-718-0014. A checked suitcase exceeding that allowance becomes overweight baggage +1-855-718-0014 and is subject to additional charges on top of the regular checked-bag fee +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines currently accepts overweight standard checked baggage between 23 kg and 32 kg +1-855-718-0014, with an excess-weight fee of approximately 9–24 for each additional kilogram +1-855-718-0014. The maximum published weight for an individual overweight checked bag +1-855-718-0014 is 32 kg +1-855-718-0014.

For example, if a passenger arrives with a suitcase weighing 27 kg +1-855-718-0014, the traveler may owe the regular checked-bag price plus the applicable excess charge for the weight above 23 kg +1-855-718-0014. Because overweight fees are calculated in addition to the normal baggage charge +1-855-718-0014, passengers carrying several bags may benefit from redistributing items before traveling when doing so keeps each suitcase within the standard weight limit +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Oversized Baggage Policy

A checked bag exceeding 158 cm or 62 inches in total linear dimensions +1-855-718-0014 falls under the Singapore Airlines oversized baggage policy +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines currently accepts qualifying oversized baggage measuring between 158 cm and 292 cm in total linear dimensions +1-855-718-0014, subject to the airline's other baggage conditions +1-855-718-0014.

The published Singapore Airlines oversized baggage fee is approximately 99–139 +1-855-718-0014, charged in addition to the normal checked-bag price +1-855-718-0014. Travelers carrying unusually shaped luggage should calculate length + width + height before arriving at the airport +1-855-718-0014 because a bag can remain below the 23 kg weight limit while still triggering an oversized-baggage charge because of its dimensions +1-855-718-0014.

Large sporting equipment and special items may be treated under separate baggage categories +1-855-718-0014, so passengers with bicycles, golf clubs, skis, snowboards, hockey equipment, musical instruments, or similar items should check the applicable special-baggage policy rather than assuming a standard oversized-suitcase rule applies +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines Sports Equipment Baggage Policy

The Singapore Airlines baggage policy for sports equipment covers bicycles, golf clubs, hockey equipment +1-855-718-0014, ringette or lacrosse equipment, skis, and snowboards +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines recommends adding special baggage through My Trips at least 24 hours before departure +1-855-718-0014 and arriving early enough for the additional handling required at check-in +1-855-718-0014.

A bicycle currently costs approximately 79–109 when purchased before airport arrival +1-855-718-0014 and 99–139 at the airport +1-855-718-0014. Golf clubs, hockey equipment, skis, and snowboards generally carry published advance-purchase prices of approximately 69–94 +1-855-718-0014, increasing to approximately 99–139 at the airport +1-855-718-0014.

Proper packing is also +1-855-718-0014 required +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines states that bicycles should be packed in a hard case or box +1-855-718-0014, skis and snowboards should travel in a suitable protective bag or case, and golf clubs should be placed inside a golf travel bag +1-855-718-0014. Additional oversized fees may apply +1-855-718-0014 depending on the item +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Musical Instrument Baggage

Passengers traveling with musical instruments must consider +1-855-718-0014 the Singapore Airlines carry-on baggage size and weight limits +1-855-718-0014. Small instruments may be transported in the cabin when they meet applicable cabin restrictions +1-855-718-0014 and can be safely stored in an overhead compartment, beneath the seat, or another approved location +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines does not allow passengers to purchase a separate aircraft seat +1-855-718-0014 solely for an instrument +1-855-718-0014.

Larger instruments must generally travel as checked baggage +1-855-718-0014 and should be protected inside a sturdy case +1-855-718-0014. Normal checked-baggage, overweight, and oversized charges can apply +1-855-718-0014 depending on the instrument's dimensions and weight +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines also advises passengers to consider dedicated insurance +1-855-718-0014 for valuable musical instruments +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Infant Baggage Allowance

The Singapore Airlines infant baggage policy provides additional baggage benefits +1-855-718-0014 for passengers traveling with a child under 2 years old +1-855-718-0014. A parent traveling with an infant can bring 1 diaper bag free of charge +1-855-718-0014, with size and weight equivalent to Singapore Airlines's standard carry-on allowance, in addition to the adult passenger's normal free personal item +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines also permits parents traveling with an infant to check 3 complementary infant-related items +1-855-718-0014, such as a stroller, car seat, or playpen +1-855-718-0014. This is separate from the standard paid checked-baggage allowance +1-855-718-0014 and can significantly reduce baggage costs for families traveling with baby equipment +1-855-718-0014.

Passengers should still make sure that any additional suitcases used for clothing or personal belongings comply +1-855-718-0014 with the regular Singapore Airlines checked baggage policy +1-855-718-0014. The complimentary infant-item allowance is intended for qualifying child-related equipment +1-855-718-0014 rather than ordinary luggage +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines Restricted and Prohibited Baggage

The Singapore Airlines baggage policy also includes detailed rules +1-855-718-0014 for dangerous, restricted, and prohibited items +1-855-718-0014. Some articles cannot be carried in cabin baggage +1-855-718-0014, while others cannot be placed inside checked baggage +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines states that its restrictions follow applicable safety requirements +1-855-718-0014, including CATSA regulations +1-855-718-0014.

Liquids, aerosols, and gels carried through security must generally be inside containers of 100 ml or less +1-855-718-0014 and packed according to applicable screening rules +1-855-718-0014. Portable chargers and spare batteries must generally remain in the passenger cabin +1-855-718-0014 and must be protected against short circuits +1-855-718-0014. Electronic cigarettes must also remain unused in carry-on baggage +1-855-718-0014 and are not permitted in checked luggage +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines prohibits several battery-powered personal transportation devices from both checked and carry-on baggage +1-855-718-0014, including hoverboards, electric skateboards, electric bikes, certain Segway-type devices, recreational scooters, and specified smart baggage with integral charging systems +1-855-718-0014. Passengers traveling with batteries, specialized electronics, medical equipment, or unusual items +1-855-718-0014 should confirm the current requirements before departure +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines Medical Equipment and Mobility Devices

Travelers carrying medical or accessibility equipment receive different treatment from ordinary baggage +1-855-718-0014 in certain circumstances +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines's current special-items guidance states that CPAP machines can be carried onboard in a protective case +1-855-718-0014, while wheelchairs can be checked without an additional baggage charge +1-855-718-0014. Certain oxygen equipment and other medical devices may require +1-855-718-0014 advance notification or approval +1-855-718-0014.

Because batteries, oxygen equipment, mobility aids, and medical devices may be subject to aviation-safety requirements +1-855-718-0014, passengers should not apply ordinary Singapore Airlines baggage size and weight rules without first checking the specific requirements for the equipment concerned +1-855-718-0014.

How to Avoid Singapore Airlines Baggage Fees at the Airport

The easiest way to avoid unexpected Singapore Airlines baggage charges +1-855-718-0014 is to know the required baggage category before arriving at the airport +1-855-718-0014. Travelers using only the free personal-item allowance should keep the bag +1-855-718-0014 within 15 × 33 × 43 cm and 7 kg +1-855-718-0014. Passengers requiring a standard carry-on should keep it within 23 × 40 × 55 cm and 10 kg +1-855-718-0014, while regular checked luggage should stay within 23 kg and 158 cm in total linear dimensions +1-855-718-0014.

Purchasing baggage early can also make +1-855-718-0014 a substantial difference +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines's current published pricing shows noticeably higher charges for several baggage categories +1-855-718-0014 when purchased during online check-in or at the airport compared with the initial booking stage +1-855-718-0014. Measuring and weighing luggage at home also reduces the risk +1-855-718-0014 of an unexpected carry-on, overweight, or oversized-baggage charge +1-855-718-0014.

Passengers should also check what is already included with their booking +1-855-718-0014 before paying for another bag +1-855-718-0014. Certain bundles or services can include baggage benefits +1-855-718-0014, and Singapore Airlines currently notes that Singapore Airlines Express includes a carry-on +1-855-718-0014.

 Singapore Airlines Baggage Check-In Rules

Passengers checking baggage should complete the airline's check-in requirements +1-855-718-0014 and arrive with sufficient time to drop bags before the applicable airport deadline +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines's current online check-in system states that online check-in opens 24 hours before departure +1-855-718-0014 and closes 120 minutes before the scheduled departure time +1-855-718-0014. Once at the airport, passengers who have checked in online +1-855-718-0014 can proceed with the applicable baggage-drop process +1-855-718-0014.

Travelers carrying oversized baggage, sports equipment, infant equipment, or other special items +1-855-718-0014 should allow additional time for handling +1-855-718-0014. Singapore Airlines specifically recommends arriving early when traveling with special baggage +1-855-718-0014 and adding eligible special items through My Trips at least 24 hours before departure +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines Personal Item vs Carry-On

One of the most common points of confusion in the Singapore Airlines baggage policy +1-855-718-0014 is the difference between a personal item and a carry-on +1-855-718-0014. The personal item is free, must fit under the seat +1-855-718-0014, measures no more than 15 × 33 × 43 cm, and weighs no more than 7 kg +1-855-718-0014. A regular carry-on is larger, can measure up to 23 × 40 × 55 cm and weigh up to 10 kg +1-855-718-0014, and usually requires a separate purchase unless included through an eligible booking option +1-855-718-0014.

This distinction matters particularly +1-855-718-0014 for travelers using backpacks +1-855-718-0014. A backpack is not automatically considered a free personal item +1-855-718-0014 simply because it has shoulder straps +1-855-718-0014. Its classification is determined by +1-855-718-0014 the actual packed dimensions and weight +1-855-718-0014. If the backpack exceeds the free personal-item limit +1-855-718-0014, Singapore Airlines can classify it as a carry-on and charge accordingly +1-855-718-0014.

Singapore Airlines Carry-On vs Checked Baggage

A Singapore Airlines carry-on travels inside the aircraft cabin +1-855-718-0014 and is limited to 10 kg and 23 × 40 × 55 cm +1-855-718-0014. A standard checked bag travels in the aircraft hold +1-855-718-0014 and can weigh up to 23 kg, with total dimensions of up to 158 cm +1-855-718-0014. Both normally involve a fee +1-855-718-0014 unless the passenger's booking includes the relevant baggage product +1-855-718-0014.

Passengers deciding between carry-on and checked baggage should consider +1-855-718-0014 more than weight alone +1-855-718-0014. The current carry-on price begins around $49 during booking +1-855-718-0014, while the first standard checked bag begins around $69, but actual costs depend on the itinerary and purchase timing +1-855-718-0014. Travelers should therefore compare the exact baggage prices displayed during their booking +1-855-718-0014 rather than assuming one option will always be cheaper +1-855-718-0014.
