This might sound natural for a guitar string pluck for example, but I'm using a static square wave sample I recorded, and it isn't sustaining infinitely while keeping the sample volume even (which is weird, since the sample files themselves maintain the same volume throughout their duration)
Here is an image of my current instrument settings. Note: I have tried leaving the Vol Env Sustain and Vol Env Hold empty, as from what I've been looking at that should make the soundfont function how I'm trying to get it to work, but that has the same exact issue - volume dropping gradually after the initial attack, it
isn't abrupt, and it never goes down to -inf dB. It just gets quieter the longer I hold it.

The only hint I have to this issue is that it
might have gotten worse when I changed the loop playback to the third option in global.
This is happening both in the piano roll player within Polyphone, and outside of Polyphone after exporting (or saving) the soundfont and using a soundfont player to play it (this is happening with all soundfont players even if sustain is set to max on them)
Vol Env Hold being set to the sample's duration length in seconds has done nothing, and changing the sustain to 0dB (the max as I understand, since raising it is actually negative dB) hasn't either. Sorry for being thorough, but I feel like I tried tweaking every option and reading the documents but there's something I'm missing or don't understand here. It's probably something really simple I'm overlooking...
