Selecting Multiple Samples inside an Instrument

    Hi,

A few weeks ago I made a post in this forum explaining the problem I am facing but my english was not good enough and I couldnt make me clear. So I decided to make a video so it get's easier to understand:

It's very short, 1 min and I think it is much easier to understand.

Am I doing something wrong? Maybe a solution to the problema I reported above is already implemented and I dont know how to use it?

I know it is recommended to create a separated instrument for each velocity so that would be easier to apply a Cutoff or add a modulator to only those samples in the instrument. However I have at least 200 instruments already recorded with all the samples inside and instrument and I really need to change a few properties (like Cutoff) of just a set of samples. And unfortunatelly I dont find a way to do this.

if it is for just a set of samples, then place that set in a seperate Instrument or change the settings one by one.
it is wise to think about the architecture of a soundfont before starting. see your previous question

I agree 100% with you! But, as you are aware, most soundfonts people use are downloaded directly from the internet: they are created by other people. Other people usually dont take care about what you said. And the proof is that I have to deal with this problem because of over 200 soundfont I downloaded from the internet, and absolutelly all of them have all the velocities inside a single INSTRUMENT.

If I am the one creating a soundfont I can take have your comment in mind and create different instruments for each velocity. But if you download 100 soudfonts from the internet, I garantee you that 99 of them will have all velocities in a single instrument.

Polyphone software does a lot of things that helps editing soundfonts, and most of those things wouldnt be necessary if users followed ideal guidelines. Take this for example: if people did exactly as you said, I mean, if people created separated instrguments for each velocity, then why would you provide the VELOCITY RANGE user interface? Why not just keep the table? There would be absolutely no need for the VELOCITY RANGE user interface if people followed your guideline.

Despite your guideline, developers put a lof of effort and created the VELOCITY RANGE. So I really hope someone sees my suggestion as useful.

it is true that velocity range settings within an instrument make no sense if you can set velocity ranges in the preset. so the conclusion is that the possibility of velocity range settings at instrument level should be deleted from the soundfont editor. just like i hope the developer of Polyphone will not be so mad to add an new possibility to select multiple samples within an instrument just to apply separate filter settings on them.
same goes for other "Features" like the extra rootkey settings in the newer versions, division multiplication, sound spatialisatio etc.
if you are serious in making soundfonts, work along your own ideas and dont follow other peoples errors.

@bottrop thank you. I thought you were one of the developers of Polyphone, sorry for my confusion. In this case, where is the correct place so I can request this as a feature? I mean, how can I post this feature request in hope some dev will someday think about it and implement it, if they agree?
